Casey #02-023
(and Boomer #02-024)

Casey and Boomer are back.  They are still the sweetest boys in the world.  Does your family have room for two senior snugglers?  Let RAGOM know right away before another foster family falls in love.

Casey is a mellow 9 year old boy with a beautiful white face and a golden personality.  He and his brother, Boomer 02-024, were given to RAGOM because of allergies in the family.  (It was a very difficult decision.)  They were both very much loved and well cared for.  Casey and Boomer are wonderful with children and other dogs.  Casey absolutely loves attention and enjoys being brushed.  Casey also loves to ride in the car.  He leapt up into the cab of my 4x4 like he was a pup and stuck his head right out the window to enjoy the wind.

Casey is looking for a home where he and his brother will get lots of love and affection.  He is one of those "perfect" dogs that has no bad dog habits.  He is well trained and truly lives for his people.

UPDATES:

7/26/02:  Casey and Boomer have found their forever home!  Vickie and her sister met them yesterday and it was love at first sight.  These lucky boys get to drive around town in a convertible and take long walks around the lake.  I miss them already, but can only imagine the joy they will bring to their new mom.  Just wait 'til she sees how sweet they are when they calm down.

7/24/02:  Casey and Boomer are meeting a potential adopter tomorrow night.  (They have no idea what this means!)  I am really hoping that they will find a home where they get more attention than a single guy can give them.

Life continues to be wonderful with these boys.  Casey came to school with me on Monday and the kids just loved him.  He didn't do any tricks or anything really cool, but he is such a sweet guy that half the kids wanted to take him home.  I told them they would have to take his brother as well, and they said that would be just fine.

Casey got his nails clipped and filed last night.  You would have thought I had just hit him with a baseball bat when he gave me the sad eye treatment.  He certainly didn't enjoy the process, but he didn't run off either.  Once I had finished he was back to his usual self and just laid there in my lap getting petted.

Placement tells me that we now have multiple families interested in Casey and Boomer.  This makes me very happy knowing that they will definitely be well cared for.  But it also makes me realize that I will have to let these guys go.  I've never wanted three dogs, but if someone said that I had to keep these guys forever, I wouldn't hesitate in the least.  They have been the best and easiest fosters I have ever had and I've had some great ones!

7/12/02:  Casey is still a total lover!  He enjoys nothing more than getting scratched behind the ears and snuggling with his people.  I can't believe these guys have been here for over a month now.  I really thought someone would see them and fall instantly in love like I have.  They are very happy dogs and can't wait to find a forever home even though they have certainly made themselves at home here.  I will miss them greatly when they are gone.

7/6/02:  Casey and Boomer got to go to the river today!  They sure loved running around sniffing everything and acting like puppies!  They took to the water like typical goldens.  This time it was Casey's turn to be the good retriever.  He enjoyed swimming after tennis balls and bringing them back.  (Sally usually beat him to the ball, but the swimming was fun anyway!)

Casey has a new favorite "cool spot" where he hangs out when I am not around.  It is right next to the furnace in the utility room on the cement floor.  I couldn't find him for twenty minutes the other day and there he was, curled up and happy as can be.  He is sure a sweet boy and would love to find a home where he can put his head in someone's lap for hours on end.

6/30/02:  Casey gets more and more loving every day.  His only concern in life is who is going to pet him next.  He is such a sweet boy and I will really miss him when he and his brother find a new home.

We went back to the vet's this week for some boosters.  Casey's ears have cleared up wonderfully.  The hot spot he had scratched bald is growing nice thick fur - he must be feeling a lot better!  We did learn that Casey has a very subtle heart murmur.  This is not a big deal right now and should be checked each time he goes in for an exam.

6/23/02:  Casey has had another great week here.  He makes the funniest noises when you pet him, when you don't pet him, and when you stop petting him.  He just thrives on attention and is the sweetest guy.  If he could find a home where he would get daily belly rubs he would be in heaven.

6/17/02:  Casey got to try on a Gentle Leader today.  He was not amused, but after half a block of fighting it decided to give in and walk like a pro.  See, old dogs can learn new tricks!

Okay, I have decided that I will be placing Casey and his brother, Boomer, as a matched set.  It breaks my heart to think of these two apart after eight years.  It might take some time to find the right family, but these two are welcome to stay here as long as it takes.  (They are such wonderful dogs!)

They will be meeting a family this week and hopefully they will get to have a forever home really soon.  (I will miss them terribly!)

6/9/02:  This old boy is adjusting to life here like a champ.  He has calmed down a lot since the thunder let up.  He sure likes going for rides in the truck!  He will lift his 95 pound frame into the cab easier than I can get myself in, and he will literally drag me down the driveway to go for a ride.  Casey was very good at the pet stores yesterday.  He met lots of people and charmed them all.  He even showed them how loud he can bark!  He has a great voice - you would swear he was a meaner breed of dog if you couldn't see him.  His bark seems to have two meanings:  outside it means that the neighbors should come over to pet him, inside it means that I should not have stopped petting him so soon.  He is a real sweetheart!

6/5/02:  Casey got a bath last night.  He was a bit reluctant about getting into the tub, but once in he seemed to not mind it much at all.  He finally got a good night's sleep with no thunder.  Hopefully we can string a few nice nights together so he can relax some more.  He let me groom him and clip his front toenails tonight.  He is sure a sweet boy.  Tomorrow we go to the vet to see how he is doing inside, get him updated on his shots, and find out just how much weight he needs to lose.

6/4/02:  Casey is doing very well in foster care.  He is just the nicest old boy around.  If you pet him he will make some soft vocalizations to let you know that he really appreciates the affection.  If you should happen to stop, he will let out a slow, raspy bark, put up his paws and then just look at you until you resume giving him the love he has come to expect.

As if our so-called "Spring" weather hasn't been unfair enough toward us humans, wouldn't you know, the first two nights that here there has been a ton of thunder.  Casey is not at all comfortable with thunder and loud noises so has been quite nervous at night.  He lies next to me with his head in the window sill panting and occasionally whining.  Sure it's hard to fall asleep with such a big boy shaking two inches from my head, but his brother doesn't seem to mind at all.  (He just falls asleep on my feet.)  Hopefully the weather will clear soon and we will all sleep as well as Boomer!

Casey is a fabulous senior dog and will make a great addition to any family willing to open their home and their hearts to him.
