Boomer
#02-024 Casey and Boomer are back. They are still the sweetest boys in the world. Does your family have room for two senior snugglers? Let RAGOM know right away before another foster family falls in love. Boomer is a sweet 8 year old golden with a beautiful white face and a golden personality. He and his brother, Casey 02-023, were given to RAGOM because of allergies in the family. (It was a very difficult decision.) Both of these boys were very well cared for and loved. They are great with children. Boomer likes to go for rides in the car. He also likes to climb up on the couch and lie down on you. (On, not with!) He is a real snuggler.
Boomer is looking for a new home where he and Casey will get the love they have come to know since puppyhood. Boomer has no bad dog habits and just loves to give out those puppy kisses. UPDATES: 7/26/02: Casey and Boomer have found their forever home! Vickie and her sister met them yesterday and it was love at first sight. These lucky boys get to drive around town in a convertible and take long walks around the lake. I miss them already, but can only imagine the joy they will bring to their new mom. Just wait 'til she sees how sweet they are when they calm down. 7/24/02: Casey and Boomer are meeting a potential adopter tomorrow night. (They have no idea what this means!) I am really hoping that they will find a home where they get more attention than a single guy can give them. Life continues to be wonderful with these boys. Boomer came to school with me on Tuesday and the kids just loved him. He chased, but failed to retrieve, a few tennis balls. He went on a few short walks, and otherwise charmed everyone. He is just a big snuggly cutie-pie! When I first took Boomer and Casey to the vet, she told me that they would probably need to have their teeth cleaned. They had a lot of plaque and tartar built up and that is a serious breeding ground for nasty bacteria. I have switched my girl, Sally, over to a diet of raw meaty bones and I will occasionally give these to Casey and Boomer as well. (They, of course, love them!) Wouldn't you know they both have nice white smiles now! Boomer would love nothing more than to eat all of Sally's foods, but poor Casey has a bit of trouble digesting turkey necks. Oh well. Placement tells me that we now have multiple families interested in Casey and Boomer. This makes me very happy knowing that they will definitely be well cared for. But it also makes me realize that I will have to let these guys go. I've never wanted three dogs, but if someone said that I had to keep these guys forever, I wouldn't hesitate in the least. They have been the best and easiest fosters I have ever had and I've had some great ones! 7/12/02: What more wonderful things can I say about Boomer?! He is such a sweet boy and so well mannered. This afternoon he had several opportunities to run out the gate and take off, but he just stood there watching me work - what a good boy. He is going to be the best dog someone has ever adopted someday soon. I will miss him!
7/6/02: Casey and Boomer got to go to the river today! They sure loved running around sniffing everything and acting like puppies! They took to the water like typical goldens. This time it was Casey's turn to be the good retriever. He enjoyed swimming after tennis balls and bringing them back. (Sally usually beat him to the ball, but the swimming was fun anyway!) Boomer is just the perfect dog! He is never in the way when I am trying to work in the yard or around the house - take a hint Sally and Casey! He is very easy going and quite funny when he is getting a belly rub.
6/30/02: Boomer likes to wrestle! He is more than willing to take his snuggling to the next level and wrestle around with you. If you adopt him and try wrestling watch out for his secret weapon - his tongue! He never bites or mouths, but whatever part of you he can reach is going to get licked. I started my own girl, Sally, on a BARF diet this week. She loves it and Boomer is insanely jealous! He always wants to steal bites of her veggie mush (I always let him eat what she won't.) and he just stares as she eats her raw chicken wings and beef ribs. Nothing makes him happier than getting the bones when she is done. I would gladly switch Boomer and Casey over to a natural diet as well, but has been hard enough looking for a family that wants TWO older dogs much less one that is willing to put in the extra effort that a raw diet requires - even though it would benefit these boys greatly. 6/23/02: Boomer has the most expressive face I have ever seen on a dog. You always know what his mood is by his facial expressions. Whether he is smiling when I get home or trying to keep his eyes open late at night, there is no question what he is feeling. He changes these looks quickly too. He will get the "No, not the ear medicine!" look and once its been given, give the "Well, that wasn't so bad!" look right away. He is adorable. 6/17/02: Boomer is just a riot! He acts his age one minute and then jumps around like a puppy the next. He and Sally have been antagonizing each other since day one, but tonight Boomer actually laid down right next to her. She made some confused growling noises and then relaxed. This is good news on two fronts: good that they are getting along better, and this means that Boomer and Casey will soon find a home! I'll explain... Every foster dog I have winds up getting adopted right about the time Sally warms up to them. Go figure. I have decided to place these boys together no matter how long that takes. They are brothers to the core and shouldn't have to be put through the stress of three homes in one month AND being separated from each other. That special family who wants two big old boys is out there and Casey and Boomer are happy to wait here while we look. 6/9/02: Boomer sure likes to snuggle! He is the first one into bed and stays there all night. He also enjoys laying on top of you when you sit or lie on the couch. He's a 90 pound lap dog! He and Sally have yet to establish who is the top dog. Sally thinks she is and Boomer is very insistent that he could care less. When she challenges him, he just turns around and puts his big butt in her face. He won't press the issue beyond that. It's quite amusing. Boomer is eating better now. He didn't eat the first couple of days - don't worry, he won't starve! One day he decided to eat Sally's dinner. Not a good plan. Sally eats a very rich food and Boomer is on a "lite" food. I'll spare you the details of the aftermath. It will suffice to say that I have never been happier to have tiles and not carpet on the kitchen floor. Boomer is doing very well and looks forward to finding his new forever home. 6/5/02: After riding very well in the truck yesterday, Boomer got a bath. He hopped right into the tub and really seemed to enjoy having the shampoo worked into his lovely thick coat and then dried with a towel. Today I discovered that he likes to play fetch. He actually took off after a ball meant for my Sally and brought it right back to me! Boomer has been a little nervous the last couple of days and has not been eating much. Today he decided that he was more relaxed and ate all of Sally's food. He must be feeling better! Tomorrow we go to the vet to get him checked out and weighed in. 6/4/02: Boomer and Casey are great senior fosters. They are perfectly comfortable in the front bedroom when I am at work. They are happy to see me in the afternoon and have been pretty good at night, sleeping wherever they feel like it. I am hoping to find a home where Boomer will have another dog to be with. He could probably make the transition to an only dog just fine, but he has always been with Casey and is very attached to him. This might take a little time, but he is a joy to have around the house. |
