Robbie #04-377

(Fostered in Waseca, MN)

Robbie (as his owners called him) is doing wonderfully on his second day at our house. We have learned a lot already about him--for instance, in Robbie's IDEAL forever home, there wouldn't be many stairs due to the fact that he REALLY wants to go with you upstairs to sleep, but his poor legs don't like to let him, and he gets very sad. He can make it up, but he has to stop along the way a few times to catch his grip. Another of Robbie's comical characteristics is that when he wants you to play with him, he will go grab a toy, and come up to you and growl. And, if you're not expecting it, you might think he is growling because he is guarding toys, but that is NOT the case. His former owners sent a note along that explained this, he is just talkative. He absolutely LOVES my kids (ages 1 and 3), he doesn't bother the cats at all, just lets them go their way, and so far we've had no problems with our 1 yr old male Springer or our 10 year old Yorkshire terrier. Robbie seems to get along with everyone. In his previous home, he did not enjoy going swimming at all. But does like to take a bath. We will be taking Robbie to the vet to get a clean bill of health before he will be ready for his forever home. Stay tuned for more updates!!

UPDATES:

12/29/04:  Here is a note from Robbie's new family:

Robbie has been adjusting well.  He still licks his front legs too much,  so we are trying a couple things to get him to stop the habit.

Overall Robbie has been a good Golden, and is adjusting to his new home very well.  He likes the kids and has shown a desire to play with balls that make noise.  He gets along fine with his new Collie sisters and enjoys their company during the day.

For anyone looking to adopt a Golden, a senior will fit into most homes well and is pretty self-sufficient.  Robbie does not wander and stays in the yard.  He and the Collies spend time outside watching the world go by and rarely venture beyond our driveway.  Our fenced back yard is now a haven for the squirrels.

We'd like to say thanks to RAGOM for making Robbie available for us to adopt.

12/9/04:  Well, Robbie went home today with his new forever family!  John and Holly T took him home to live with his new Collie sisters!  He will get to have the run of the house and yard!  Yeah for Robbie!  Stay tuned for updates from his new family!!  And pictures too!

12/6/04:  Just thought I'd give an update on Robbie. All is going wonderfully for Robbie at our house. Right now he is curled up next to our recliner taking a snooze. He is the most well behaved dog! With the exception of that ever moving Golden Retriever tail, you would hardly know he's around! He is content to just lie around the house and cat nap, but don't get me wrong! He's not a couch potato.....if we're outside cleaning the yard or playing with the kids, he's right there with us. He adores my kids. We had a small house guest last weekend - my friends 1 year old little boy came over for the night and he fell in love with Robbie. He would walk up to him, snuggle his face into Robbie's back, and close his eyes. It was SO cute! Robbie definitely would be an excellent family guy. He loves everyone! Even the mail lady, whom my dogs despise!

Previously I had said Robbie wouldn't do well with steps, but since then, he has gone to the vet and gotten on some Rimadyl and some Cosequin, and it has done wonders for his ability to climb steps. He frequently can be found lounging on the landing halfway up the steps because the sun shines in the window and he basks there in the morning. So, if you are looking for a dog that is low maintenance, great with kids, loves to take his baths, loves to take his meds (he reminds me if I forget), enjoys the company of people and dogs and cats, doesn't mind rodents (chinchillas, to be exact), and will give you unconditional love, then Robbie is the guy for you!

11/28/04:  Here are some new pictures of Robbie since he got his hair cut.  He is such a handsome guy!!  As you can tell, he and Buster, our Springer Spaniel, are best buds!  They are always hanging out together or wrestling.  They're so funny.

11/22/04: Well, Robbie is doing Fantastic! He is patiently awaiting a phone call from someone who wants a mellow laid back guy to keep their feet warm while they work on the computer. He would make an EXCELLENT nursing home or hospital visitor. He does NOT jump, ever, and even when he's VERY excited, he's still very mellow. He likes to come up and lay his head on your lap and will sit there and wait for you to pet him. He is such a love! It would be nice for him to find his forever home soon, as he and my 3 year old son are getting very attached to each other! If you are looking for a low maintenance ball of love, email placement to let them know you are interested in Robbie!!!

11/13/04:  Well, Robbie went to the vet today, and for the most part got a clean bill of health.  YEAH!!  He is on some meds for some hot spots, and for his arthritis, but other than that he is doing very well!  He is ready to go to his forever home so he can bond with his new family, as he seems to miss his old family quite a bit these past few days.  He is very much attached to me and doesn't like if I go anywhere without him.  He is a love to have around.  He will come up and lay his head on your leg and patiently wait to be petted.  Such a great dog.  Everyone at the vet clinic today wanted to keep him!  Well, we'll keep updating!!!

11/12/04:  Hi guys!  Robbie here again.  I is gettin' a little skeered cuz da momperson has been tellin me all day 'bout goin to da vet, and boy do I know what dat means!  She said I's not pose to worry tho cuz I just has to get a check up, no shots today.  And she said my stiff legs should start to feel better after the vetguy sees em, so boy is dat a relief.  I is havin a hard time keepin up round here!  I try real hard though.  I sleep on da floor next to da momperson.  She's so nice, she put a big pile o those big pillows on da floor for me to sleep on so I don't has to sleep on da hard floor.  I will write some more after my check up.  Talk to y'all later!

Hugs and Golden Kisses (I specially love the hugs!!),   Robbie

11/7/04: Mornin' everyone! Robbie here, my momperson forgot to turn the 'puter off, so I's figgered I would write you all a letter to tell you what good times I is havin' here. He is nice, sat wit me whiles the momperson gave me a bath and a groomin'. My feet feel way better now dat I got all dat extra hair out from between my toes! And to all you udder fosters dat has to be on diets, hah! I don't cuz my momperson said dat I lost about 20 pounds just gettin my hairs cut! Heh! Dat's what I call a quick diet! Da cat here sed somtin' about the catkins diet, but I wasn't sure what he ment. Ennyhow, I spose I better get off the 'puter fore da momperson comes back in da house.
