Mozart
#04-122
(Fostered
in Omaha, Ne)
After less than one year, Raedeen, Jenni
and Katie lost Mozart to the same bloat that took sweet Trigger.
The whole family is devastated--so many
turned up at the Vet's that one waiting room was turned over just
for them.
Before I met Mozart, Raedeen kept telling
me how beautiful Mozart was and I was prepared for the Purina dog. Mozart was
10+ and most of them had been hard years, she had a sparse coat, was
rundown, had heartworm, parasites and the crookedest pair of back legs
you ever saw. But she was beautifully sweet and we all loved
her. I just wish she could have had a few more good years.
2/3/05: It is with much heartbreak that I must tell you we had to put
Mozart 04 -122 to sleep last night. Her stomach became twisted, and
without very major and expensive emergency surgery, she would have died within
hours.
I became a RAGOM volunteer last May or June. I picked up Mozart from the
animal shelter in Council Bluffs, Iowa and fostered her through heartworm,
parasites and a benign tumor on her leg. Initially she was very fearful,
and would come out of my converted laundry room, doggie room, to eat, go out to
do her business and occasionally wander out to peek at me in the great room.
After a week or so, she came into the great room and I invited her to join me on
the couch. She laid down beside me and after a few minutes of petting, she
let out the longest, deepest sigh I have ever heard. She realized she was
safe, loved, was not going to be hurt again; and from that day forward she
became Velcro. My 7 year old granddaughter, Katie, fell in love with her
as did my daughter, Jenni. When well, Mozart was adopted by my human
family.
My family and I thank RAGOM for the wonderful work you do, and the opportunity
you gave us to be Mozart's family. She reminded us the meaning of
unconditional love and trust, and what being a friend truly means. She
will be a part of our hearts and memories.
Sincerely,
Raedeen
