Misty #09-322
(Fostered in Blaine, MN)
Well Misty came in yesterday late afternoon with 11 other dogs from SD; and all were very frightened and unsure what to expect. The hot and humid weather did not help at all, as all the dogs were hot! Misty seemed not to know what doors of any kind were and getting into the van was a real ordeal. She finally settled down about half way home just behind the front seats.
She received a bath with some cool water to cool her down, pulled some ticks, cut toenails and mattes out from behind her ears. Towel dried her off and let the resident kids (Missy & Ali) meet her. Of course there was a lot of sniffing going on and butt checking (dog thing). We walked along the fence line and we finally ventured into the house by the way of the deck and patio door and that was another big adventure. Misty checked out the kitchen and living room, drank a small amount of water; and would not eat anything for dinner. No hand feeding or bowl feeding.
Misty has never been in a house before, so the sounds from the TV, phone, and kitchen noises are startling. She will be tethered to a human body for the next 5 to 7 days or longer if needed. She must learn not to be afraid of the inside workings of a home.
Last night she was tethered to the bed and slept next to it all night and before I turned the light off, Misty gave me some kisses on the hand and arm. Misty at this point has been outside many times and she has yet pottied anything. So this morning we go out on the long tether and still nothing. As I have some chores to do outside (poo pickup & pulling weeds), I will let her walk around the yard with her short tether and will see what she does. Well that was a successful adventure, Misty took care of all business.
Tomorrow I will make an appointment with the vet for shots and getting her spayed, as Misty has had a few litters; and her time has come to be retired. Misty's age is very young, she is just 3 yo, she is very sweet, is learning what love is. She sits by me and always gives me one of her paws to hold.
As you can tell from her picture she is also very camera shy, but I will get better ones yet. The things Misty needs in her new home is a fenced yard and a resident dog. If you think Misty may work in your home, please contact your placement coordinator.

08/12/2009:
Yesterday was vet day (Monday, August 10) for Misty, We have a few small medical issues to clear up on her; as her left ear is very infected with bacteria, she has a vulvae infection. Also Misty is scheduled to be spayed on Tues, Aug 18. She had blood taken for heart worm check, she was mirco chipped, they cleaned her ears out and put meds in both, gave me meds to worm her, they also showed me how to give her meds for her private area. It was a big day at the vet and she was happy to come home.
Last night for the first time in two days (almost 3 days) Misty ate her first bowl of food, FM was getting a little worried.
Misty has become very attached to one of my resident dogs, Ali, as we adopted her from RAGOM. They were running in the yard last night and starting to play together. My neighbors to the back fence, have gotten a GR puppy that is now about 4 months and Misty is very curious about her. She watches how she plays and runs around from the deck of our home.
Misty discovered that there is a huge mirror in the bedroom and she thinks that there is a dog in there to play with. It is so funny to watch her look at herself and try to play. We have not yet found the correct toy that Misty would like to play with, as nothing seems to get her attention.
Love FM, Misty, Missy & Ali
08/20/2009:
Lots has been going on with Misty in the past week, she is opening up with her resident sister, Ali. She is starting to play a little more with the tennis balls and run in the back yard with Ali. I have even seen her twice pick up this pink bunny toy that squeaks (but I do not think she knows that yet), and Misty will walk around the house with it. Before Misty was spayed, she was even starting to wrestle with the other dogs.
Last weekend she ate two thirds of a new loaf of bread, which she took off the counter. So I'm a little more careful to where food is left on the counters at night. She must of been getting a little more hungry, as she does not finish her bowl of food in the evening.
Misty was having free roam after her incidents of not like being tethered to the bed, till she started having some accidents in the middle of the night. So the rule is if she does not potty after dinner or just before bed, she goes into her crate till morning. If she does potty outside anytime after dinner or bedtime, she gets free roam and is very good till morning. She's learning.
Outside noises do scare her and if the wind is blowing really hard and if the leaves on the trees are moving, this also scares her. She ducks down like there are bombers in the sky going to get her. She is funny to watch, but a very sweet young lady to love.
On Tuesday of this week Misty was spayed and she had her teeth cleaned. Her back molars were very dark in color (for her age) and her breath was to die for. So she is moving a little slow last night and today. She would not eat her bowl of food last night, but she did eat some toast with PNB and some small dog cookies. So she is not starving.
Misty has not yet decided if she would like to try the couch or jump into bed with FM, but time will tell.
Misty's needs in a fur ever home are: physical fence; needs to have another dog; she has not been tested with cats yet (as my cat hates all dogs but Missy), children over age 10 or so, as loud noises startle her and she maybe left at home 8-10 hours with free roam, with no potty breaks. I may be getting back to you on the 8-10 hours as my daughter goes back to college next week and more will come of this. Misty also will not respect a baby gate, she just jumps over the shorter ones.
All in all Misty is a wonderful young lady to have around, and she is also starting to give kisses. So give her a few more weeks to open up and she will be the best. If you are interested in Misty, please contact your placement coordinator.

09/09/2009:
So much has been going on with Misty's life; busy, busy, busy!! She has discovered that she can run from corner to corner and to the other corner in this huge back yard. Her tail is a peacock tail flying in the breeze as she runs in the back yard. And she has learned how to bark at my neighbors, but does quiet down with my calling her name.
My neighbors have a 5 month GR and Misty stands at the back fence and watches her whenever she is outside or she will sit on the deck and just look at the puppy. I often wonder what is she thinking about, all the puppies that she has had in her lifetime.
Misty has learned what toys are, but she does not play like my resident dogs do. She will wait till no one is looking and than pick up a toy and walk away with it, but drops it very soon afterwards. She is not really interested in tennis balls, she will chase a ball if the resident dogs are chasing. But no interest other words. Misty lately has been greeting me after work by jumping up on her back legs and pawing at me. Which I'm trying to break her of this habit. Misty has just started playing "all star wresting" with my resident dogs.
In the evening Misty will lay by my feet or next to my chair, where ever I'm at she will follow. If I go to the kitchen she will follow, but then food comes out of the kitchen. She learned how to take food from my hand and sometimes she is picky and does not want her treats. So we wait till later; her favorite treat is chicken jerky (a dog treat). Misty loves kisses, hugs, and being petted over and over again; she has become my velcro dog.
Misty during the day has had free roam 24/7 and no accidents, were gone about 10.5 hours a day and no issues. At night she sleeps in the kitchen under the table and seems quite comfortable. She does not wish to come into the bedroom and sleep on the bed or floor with my resident girls.
Misty's needs for a furever home are: a fenced yard; children would be ok over the age of 8 to 10, (noises will sometimes frighten her); I would personally say no cats. If you would be interested please call your placement coordinator. And we will be at the Chuck and Don's in Lakeville on Saturday, September 12 from about 11am to 1:30pm. So please come and meet Misty on Saturday, and get some licks!!
Love, FM, Misty, and resident sisters: Missy and Ali
09/16/2009:
Misty has made some huge steps in the past few days, and as her FM I'm so proud of her. On Saturday, September 12, we were at the Chuck and Don's in Lakeville and met lots of wonderful families. Misty was very shy and timid, but once someone would start petting her she would just melt into their laps, and became their Velcro pet. But all in all it was an excellent day for Misty in Lakeville. Then that evening I was playing ball with my dogs and Misty has never shown any interest to wanting to play. Well she had a change of heart on the issue. She started chasing the tennis balls as fast as I could get them back and toss again. It was so great to see her act and play like GR should be; also she has started to run more in the yard and is not so afraid of her environment.
Last night was a really big step: as I was getting ready for bed she came in and looked at the bed and decided that she wanted to sleep with me. Now at this point Misty has slept in the kitchen under the table all night, she has free roam 24/7, but this is the spot that she has chosen to sleep. So Misty roughed up the carpet in the bedroom and settled in for the night, next to the bed. I woke this morning and she was still there sound asleep. So some huge steps for Misty!!
Misty and resident dogs Missy and Ali, FS and FM will all be at the Ragom picnic on Saturday, September 19, from about 10am to 2pm or so. Please come look at Misty, you will fall in love with her.
Misty's needs for a furever home are: fenced yard, no cats, no young children, and your family needs to have a resident dog. If you feel Misty would be a good fit for your family, call your placement coord.
See you at the picnic!! Love Misty, FM, Missy and Ali
09/21/2009:
Thank you to all who attended the Ragom Annual Picnic! We had a great day!!
Misty once again met lots of wonderful families and people just interested in her story and how she is doing in her foster home.
On Saturday we had with us, Misty 09-322, Missy & Ali (residents), my daughter and I. Getting to eat lunch as we were interrupted so many times about Misty, was a little hard, but finally got to eat something and I even shared with my furbutts.
Someone had asked has Misty ever been in water and at that point we did not know how she would react to water. But after we got done eating and napping for all but FM, we headed to the lake and put a 15ft lunge line on Misty and let Missy swim and play ball on her own. And yes Misty LOVES WATER!! I wish that I had a longer lunge line for her, but she was like a pig in mud, just rolling around and enjoying the water the way it was.
When we got home that afternoon all the dogs got baths and took some really long naps, as they were tired out. They had a wonderful day and lots of people to look and pet them.
Misty's needs for a loving home are:
resident furbutt
fenced yard
and no young children under 8-10yo
If you think MIsty maybe the dog for you, please contract your placement coord.
Love and licks,
FM, Misty, Missy & Ali
10/19/2009:
Hi Everyone,
This update is coming from Misty with FM help. We have been very busy and so sorry for not doing updates on me. FM has had 3 funerals in the last 3 weeks of family and very close friends, some in town and one out of town, so very busy. Last weekend we all left on Friday afternoon and drove to north of Brainerd to Pine River and FM and FD went to a visitian and than on Saturday morning the funeral for a very special friend who was Missy's (FS vet). I misty have never met him, but Missy (FS) has and she said that he was a very nice man and found the reason why she kept having urinary bladder infections since she was 3 months old. My foster sisters thought nothing about being in a strange house, as I believe they have been here before and that helped me fell more comfortable. But I was still very good in a strange environment. I stayed by my FM all the time, just in case she thought about leaving me their as I was going home with her.
Last weekend I was trying to make snow puppy angels and I loved the snow, and all the rabbits squirrels, chipmunks and small critters had better quit running thru the yard as we the girls in the house are trying to get them all. It was fun like always playing with my FS's in a strange yard, new smells, sounds and toys. Missy got to go duck hunting with FD and she said that she enjoyed it. She was telling me about swimming and retrieving ducks; why would she retrieve birds when we chase them in the yard. But Missy came home with all kinds of smells on her and FM gave her a bath. So that was my big weekend up north.
My learning lessons of manners have been put on hold and I think I have forgotten how to do my manners. So we start again. FM has attached some new pictures with me standing on the back of the couch and looking out the front window. But what FM does not know is that I get into the bay window portion of the window and look out all day long when no one is home. When in the window I put all kinds of nose prints on the window and FM is getting tired of cleaning this everyday or so. FM says that she has to put something in the window to keep me out. I wonder what she means about this, more to come later.
This weekend we are picking up poo again, like we do every weekend, and trimming some more bushes and trees. FM said that we were going to be playing outside more this weekend as it was to be nice weather. Also FM says that she has some recipes to make dog cookies and treats for us this evening. I hope we get to taste test them, more on this baking and tasting treats.
I have learned how to crawl into bed with my FM and I try to sleep with her. But I get a little too warm in the middle of the night and move to the couch. FM has 3 dog beds and I have laid on one of them, but not sure if I like them or not yet, more on this issue also.
As you can see from my pictures that I'm working to be a much happier house dog, but things still frighten me, sounds and noises. I play with more toys and chew on bones, never knew what these were, but they are great. Stuffed toys with squeakers are fun to play with as I just carry them around like babies. I like going into my FM's room and always stealing her socks, she is always missing a sock or two as I like carrying these around.
My needs for a furever home are still: no cats, fenced yard, no young children under the age of 8yrs, and I need a resident brother or sister (to show me the correct way to live) and lots of love. If you think that I may fit into your home life please contact your placement coord and we can meet.
Lots of love and licks, Misty, FS Missy, Ali and FM
10/29/2009:
Misty will be at the Chunk and Don's in Roseville on Saturday, Oct 31; please come and meet her. Hopefully she will wear her costume, but as a PM dog she may not.
Misty is doing wonderfully, she is playing more and more everyday. Misty, Ali (resident) and new foster 09-407 Kaylee play like the devils; they play tag in the backyard the three of them are so funny to watch. Misty has free roam 24/7 and is very good, she watches me every morning as I pull out of the driveway for work, or anytime I leave the house. By standing on the back of the sofa and looking out the front window, so everytime I come back home she leaves me all kinds of new nose prints on the window. This is life in a GR home, nose prints on patio doors, back doors, front doors you name it nose prints. But this is what I get for having two fosters and two residents and I love them all very much.
If your looking for a low key, lots of love, pet me all the time kind of dog, Misty is your dog. Her other needs for a furever home are: fenced yard, resident dog (to show Misty the ways of life), no very young children (ages birth to 7yo, its a noise thing). Please came meet Misty at the Chunk and Don's at Roseville, once you meet and pet her you will be in love furever.
See you in Roseville!! Licks and pets, Misty, FM, 09-407 Kaylee, Missy and Ali (residents)

11/20/2009:
Hi this is Misty,
FM has been under the weather and so she is letting me, Misty write my own update. This should be fun, hope I spell everything correct.
Life is very good at this foster home, FM loves me to death when she has a spare hand to pet me with. As their are four dogs in this house, two residents and two fosters it gets pretty busy and crazy somedays. But FM does find time to play with all of us and we are fed everyday and lots of treats while we are being trained. We have lots of toys to always play with and when someone is home 09-422 Kaylee (9 month old) is out of her crate and she is so much fun to play with. Life is very good here, but FM needs a bigger lap for all of us.
My FM has the couch in the front bay window and we all look out if someone leaves the house. Well I have learned to sit and lay down on the back of the couch to listen for anyone to come back home. So I'm always on watch dog duty, FM says that this is not necessary, but I like to watch the birds, squirrels, and the stupid rabbits in the front yard. Boy would I like to get at them.
FM says that I'm just a love and so easy to take care of, if you maybe interested in adopting me my requirements are:
* fenced yard
* resident dog, to show me the way
* no children under 8yrs, younger kids get to loud
* and no cats, as I do not like the one in this house
Well FM says that I have to go now as Kaylee needs to do her update too. And this week-end on Saturday I will be at the Petsmart in New Brighton if you would like to come and meet me.
Licks and wet noses, Misty, 09-422 Kaylee, residents: Missy, Ali and FM

Misty has been adopted into a very loving home of the "M" family with a brother who is her same age and in time a possible playmate too. The "M" family has been watching Misty the past few weeks at the Roseville and New Brighton events and after their home visit last weekend, they wanted to meet Misty in their home and well the rest is history. Misty has taken to love the whole family, except brother Sammy, she is just not sure about him yet. He wants to play and she is just trying to get comfortable in her new surroundings.
In this foster home we all miss Misty very much. Kaylee 09-407 and Ali loved to play tag in the back yard and Ali was always it, and the chase was on, while big resident sister Missy supervised. As I (FM) sit here and write this update my eyes are tearing and we all miss you and love you very much. Enjoy your new life Misty and love every mintue of your new family, as this is what all foster dogs should have in the end.
Love you, FM, 09-407 Kaylee, Missy and Ali
12/10/2009:
Misty is doing great! I can't believe it, she's really coming into her own. She has started to initiate some of the play in the back yard and has her own place on the couch with Sammy. We switched her to a morning feeding routine, I put both bowls down at once and they each stick with their own food till it's gone. A few minutes later and they're both outside taking care of business. When it comes to attention, she's bold enough to step in make sure she gets her share but there's been no jealousy, no growling, no behavior problems whatsoever. (I'm knocking on wood) She seems very content here with us and we're pleased as could be with her. (Bev did call me last night while I was doing some running to tell me she snores - Misty fell asleep beside her in the living room)
We will have to send a photo.
