Little Miss Hannah arrived into town from SD this weekend. This sweet, very petite purebred golden girl is a now-retired mama of many pups.  Hannah is only 5 years old, and looks more like she could be 1 or 2 because of her little frame and dainty features.  Hannah even has that cute, coal black nose that normally fades after the first couple of years.  Rich reddish fur, tiny paws, innocent little face, and big eyes...oh so sweet! Hannah weighed in at a whopping 46.5 lbs today - she could stand to gain a few but she is not too far off for her size.

Hannah is a very shy, scared little girl who has not spent a lot of time being socialized or learning about things like leashes.  In fact, Hannah decided to prove how scared she could get this weekend by getting spooked while outside on her leash, breaking my grip on her, and RUN, RUN, RUNNING through the wheat fields like she had never run before.  I think she just wanted to see how far I could chase after her before I passed out or had a heart attack.  Hannah has not learned yet that we unfamiliar people just want to love her and protect her, so all she could think to do when she realized she was free was to just keep running.  After a few days of searching for this frightened girl, worrying about where she could be and when we would find her, she appeared! Well, actually, our neighbors reported hearing some howling in the woods nearby, so we went to search that area - in the dark - and of course, she quit her howling when she heard us coming.  We searched until 11:30pm with flashlights, canoes, waders,...(by any means necessary of course), but it wasn't until the next morning, when we got up as soon as the sun rose, that we found her.  Poor Hannah, who had slipped away from me w/her leash attached, had become all tangled in the brush and couldn't free herself.  Her leash was wrapped around her neck, but we were able to free her and she came through her GREAT ADVENTURE with just an icky eye infection, some bruising around her neck where the leash was wound, and an ear infection.

Our feelings of joy at the moment we were able to find Hannah can not be expressed in words - she is one lucky dog.

We brought Hannah to the vet, had a quick check done, and decided she only needed some eye ointment, ear meds and a little Rimadyl for any pain in her ears and eyes.  She goes back to the vet tomorrow to get all vacs UTD, and have her bloodwork done.  Hannah even tried to nuzzle up to my face in the car on the way to the vet, which was very surprising because she didn't want to get close at all before she ran.  It was like she was saying "thanks lady that I don't know yet, I am so happy to be free of that leash and I know you will take care of me now."

Her first day home after the great adventure, and Hannah has eaten 3 hotdogs, some grilled chicken, and then boiled turkey and rice for supper! She was one hungry little girl.  Now, if we could just get her to, ahem, get rid of it. :) She has not relieved herself (either way) at our house since she arrived.  We are working to get her comfortable with the dog run, and maybe she will be able to use that soon.

Hannah needs to stay on a slip collar leash for now, (she was on this when she took off, too), and probably will be tethered right to our waists until we are able to build more trust with her and put her at ease with being on leash.  Tonight, though, she is fast asleep in her crate, her safe place in this unfamiliar house.  She seems very content.  Oh, and she was nervous when we gave her a bath tonight, but after a while, she laid down on her side and shut her eyes while we scrubbed away. She even raised her back leg up so we could rub her belly - I think she decided that doggy spas are the best ever!

We are all going to sleep happy tonight.  Can't wait see this sweet angel girl come out of her shy shell.I just know she is going to be the biggest love - she has already won our hearts for sure.

UPDATES:
08/13/2009:

Hannah had pretty quiet day today.  Foster dad took her to the vet again, to have her bloodwork done and vacs UTD.  No heartworm, so that's great! We will make an appointment for little Hannah to be spayed, but she needs to wait a little longer since she just finished weaning pups not too long ago.
Pretty Hannah spent the rest of the day in her big comfy crate.  She really doesn't want to come out just yet - she likes to just lay and listen and watch everything.  She is being a good eater, and takes treats from my hand.  She even gives tiny little kisses on my fingers after the treats - what a doll.

She had one accident in the house today, because she is just not ok with going potty on leash yet, so she waited until we weren't looking and let it go in our living room.  We were just relieved that she was finally going! Hannah can't be let out yet without being leashed or tethered, so it will take some time to get her to be comfortable enough to go potty while we're standing close by.  Her forever home should absolutely have a fenced yard - a tall fence would be best.  You can tell that whenever Hannah is near a door, or in the kennel, she is always looking for a way out.  This is very typical of a dog that has not learned how to live inside a home, with people.  We need to show her that she is safe and that home is an awesome place to be! Hannah will get there, it will just take some convincing. :)

08/16/2009:

Today was a BIG day for Hanna...and I say "big" because if you saw what she left on our living room floor today, well, you get the picture.  Hanna had not gone #2 at our house at all - yet she was packing away the food like there was no tomorrow! So you can imagine how relieved we were that she was finally relieved, even though it was an accident in  the house.  I'm sure Hanna felt 100% better and about 5 pounds lighter, too!

Little Hanna is becoming quite a sweet, cuddly little girl! She loves, loves the couch, chairs, and our bed to lay on.  Those are her "safe" spots, and she spent the last two days flitting between her cozy safe spots. Hanna is still pretty nervous and really likes it best when she is holding still in one soft place. She did get a little more curious today and decided to carefully creep around the main floor every few minutes, but she would never get very far before she would high tail it back to her safe spots!

Hanna also loves to cuddle.  Because she is not used to close contact w/people, she still cringes when you walk up to her, but once we sit down next to her, she will quickly edge closer and closer to us until her head is just barely on our lap.  I have spent lots of time just sitting with her on the couch, petting her while she just closes her eyes and enjoys her new life.  If I were to dare stop the petting, her head pops up and tail starts wagging wildly as if to say "hey, keep it goin' lady!".  Oh, and you just can't resist sitting there a little longer when she looks at you with those big round eyes and moves her tiny face closer until she can bless you with a tiny little lick on the nose.  What a sweetheart! I know Hanna is just starting to understand this new life, but it is obvious that she has the true soul of a Golden.

Hanna is learning about the leash a little - she is very good about just following me if I put the slip leash on her and tether her to my body while I walk around the house.  But, she is also still nervous and does not like any quick movements or sudden noises.  Everything is new to a dog like Hanna - doorways, windows, reflections, hairdryers, TV's (she was very interested in this the first couple of days), vacuum, washing machine, furniture...you name it, it's all unfamiliar and some of it is scary to her still.  All things considered, brave little Hanna-girl is adjusting very well! She even did the stairs twice (just up, not down yet)!

We are so happy to have Hanna in our home, and can't wait for her to find her furever home soon.  Wherever she goes, Hanna will need a tall fenced in yard where she can safely play off leash.  More details to come about Hanna's furever home requirements as we get to know this precious little girl better each day!  She is a beautiful, tender, loving little mama dog that is just so happy to have people loving her and paying attention to her.  We love having little Hanna-girl at our home!

Took some cute photos of our resident dog and Hanna on the couch - will get them up asap! Check back often to read about Hanna's progress!

08/19/2009:

Pretty little Hanna-girl is slowly becoming braver each day.  Her instinct is still to move quickly but carefully between her safe-spots in the house, but she is moving a tiny bit more confidently than before which is very encouraging.  Hanna's big achievement around here in the past 2 days has been conquering the stairs, up and down! She just figured out yesterday that it is easier to use the stairs when she walks on her pads instead of tip-toeing on her nails.  Last night, Hanna actually went up and down the stairs without a leash, and when she would get to the bottom, she wanted to go right back up again.  Most of that is because she just doesn't know where to go yet, but it's great to see she's brave enough to even try on her own.

Oh, and what a snuggle-bug this girl is - it's very passive, but when ever you sit down next to her on the couch, she can't help but to inch slowly closer to you until she's close enough to sniff and give little kisses when you're not looking. :)  This tells me she really wants to have a close relationship with people, and she's trying but just needs some time to be 100% at ease with them.  Regardless of how timid she is, Hanna LOVES being pet and rubbed - she just closes her eyes and enjoys every second of it.

Hanna is eating canned food as of yesterday - we have not been able to get her to eat anything crunchy (dry dog food or treats), but she had been eating boiled chicken, ground turkey (also boiled) and rice. Her favorite treat is hotdogs! There is not enough complete nutrition in those foods to sustain her for long, so we are trying the canned food for a bit, with the intent to gradually add dry food and see if she will switch over eventually. I am a little worried that maybe her teeth hurt her - she has very heavy plaque and tartar buildup, which could indicate she didn't eat dry food before, or at least never had bones or toys to chew on that would have helped keep those teeth clean and healthy.

We had a little set back with Hanna's sores from being tangled in her leash when she was lost - they were very superficial to start, and scabbing over nicely, but I think she must have been scratching them a lot when we were gone.  Now she has quite a severe open sore under her neck that is raw and could be a little infected. We are bringing her back to the vet today to have it checked out.  It looks like it really hurts, poor thing!

One more good thing - Hanna went potty in the kennel yesterday for the first time! It was very exciting for all of us. :) Now she just needs to do the other thing out there, and we're set!

Hanna is such a joy to have in our home.  She really gets along great with our resident golden, who mostly leaves her alone but they will sniff eachother gently whenever they get close enough.  She definitely is not scared of him at all, even though she is still nervous around the humans in the house.  Hanna will absolutely need another calm, gentle dog in the house to make her feel safe and more confident all of the time.  She also needs a tall fenced yard, and someone who wants to show Hanna that the world is a happy, safe, loving place to live! With all of those things, Hanna will give you her whole heart and trust and will be the best pretty girl ever.

08/20/2009:

Hi there, Hanna's foster mom here! Hanna wanted to show you all some super cute pictures of her pretty face - she thought the ones we took at the vet looked way too sad.She also wanted to show you a not-so-close-up pic of her big cut around her neck.  When Hanna went running got loose over a week ago now, we found her tangled in some trees, with her slip collar wound tightly around her neck.  At the time, it looked as though she had just some superficial rope burn and bruising from the collar.  Her neck was also pretty swollen at the time, maybe more than we realized.  Last night, we noticed Hanna had some open sores on her neck in the folds under her chin.  When we looked closer, and cut out some sticky fur from the area, we realized that what seemed to be just rope burn had turned into a painful cut all the way around her neck, with a pretty big, open wound at the base of her neck under her chin.  I think maybe the swelling was hiding the cut before, and then it was surely itchy and Hanna started scratching it enough to break it open and really make it worse.  Our vet couldn't believe how different it looked today versus when we brought her in right after she was found in the woods.  Poor girl - that could explain why she hasn't been eating much, if her neck was really painful and making her feel yucky.

The very nice vet at Willmar Pet Hospital, Dr. Kopel, felt so bad for Hanna. She shaved up her neck all the way around to help the wounds dry out, and gave Hanna some antibiotics and Rimadyl for the pain.  We just have to keep her neck dry and clean for a while, and it should heal up just fine.  It will be a challenge since she does want to scratch at her neck and it's a hard place to bandage up.

Even with her sore neck, Hanna is really doing great.  She gets off of the couch more often now, to do a quick once over of the room on her own.  Just now, I noticed my resident golden standing by the couch and staring at Hanna.  When I went to see what she was doing that was so interesting, I found her there with a piece of a bone, chewing away at it like that's just what she always does! I don't know how it got there - either Hughie our dog brought it to her, or he left it there on the couch and she decided to try it out.  Whatever - doesn't matter but it's so nice to see her acting like a dog today!

Hanna will be going in next week for her spaying. She will retire her baby-makin' days and move on to a life of bliss with people, not puppies! :) This is one mama that is going to be very happy to be an "empty nester"! She is looking sleepy now, so I think I'll see if she wants to show me her stair-skills again and put her to bed. Good night!

08/23/2009:

Today was a wonderful day in Hanna's world! Resident dog, Hughie (former Ragom pup), had been begging to go to the lake for a couple weeks now..we'd been neglecting him a bit due to lots of attention being paid to the nervous-nelly Hanna. :)  Anyway, when asked "do you wanna go to the lake," Hughie just about jumped through the roof so we decided to load up Hanna and take her for her first trip to the lake, too.  She rode in the car like a champ - in her crate to be safe, but was basically calm the whole way there. Hanna had not been outside of our yard except to visit the vet, so we were a bit nervous about taking her to a new place.  When we got her out of the car, she "hit the deck" - which is what she does when she's unsure or if you make fast movements around her.  Once she was ready, though, she let foster dad walk her around the cabin to sniff it out, and then down to the dock she went.

Hughie loves to fetch the frisbee in the water, and Hanna watched closely for the first 5 minutes, and then she started to make little movements like she was going to try to "go get it" too! So we decided to walk her into the water on her leash.  She was very careful about going from rock to rock in the shallow water so she still had something to grab on to, but eventually she went in deep enough that she could paddle around for a few seconds before retreating back to shore.  We were just elated to see that she actually seemed to enjoy being in the water, and moreover that she obviously wanted to play and chase that frisbee with Hughie! Check out the cute pics of her in the lake - she was literally shaking with excitement when we would throw the frisbee.  Someday, Hanna might be able to swim out into the water all by herself.  For now, though, we're keeping her on the leash so we don't risk her running (or swimming) away if she gets startled.

Hanna also cuddled on the couch with Hugh and Luke (foster dad) today.  The three of them were so cozy together - she really loved having Hughie let her use his butt as a pillow! Hughie loves having her depend on him as an older brother type.  Oh, she also retrieved a tennis ball in the house today, which shows she knows a little about play.  Once she gets a little braver, Hanna will want someone who will play with her a little and keep her exercised, but also someone who LOVES to cuddle.  Right now, Hanna is curled up on the couch next to my feet - tuckered out from her day at the lake.

Hanna's new forever home will look something like this:
-people who love to cuddle and give her lots of love
-a calm, soothing home environment - not too much crazy activity
-tall physical fenced yard
-absolutely must have at least one more dog

Hanna will be ready to start meeting prospective new families soon.  She has her spay next week, then time to recover, and the wound around her neck will need to heal as well.  Once those things are taken care of, Hanna will be anxiously awaiting her hew forever home!! She will be such a sweet, loyal, loving companion to the right home.  Email RAGOM if you would like to meet Hanna when she is ready!

08/27/2009:

Just a quick note to say that Hanna retired her little tummy today - she was spayed and did just great! Dr. Kopel and team at the Willmar Pet Hospital are so nice and do great work. They have been very caring towards Hanna ever since we first brought her in when we found her stuck in the woods after she escaped. I think they have a soft spot for our sweet little girl. :)  Dr. Kopel cleaned Hanna's teeth so they look much more healthy, but in doing so, found a tooth with an exposed root. Ouch! No wonder she didn't want to eat dry food! Hopefully this makes her feel all better. Hanna is spending the night at the vet, and will get to come home to fosterland tomorrow afternoon. We're so happy to help pretty Hanna give her tired body a rest finally, so she can stop having pups and start havin' fun! Yay Hanna!!

09/03/2009:

Our sweet little Hanna has been making lots of progress the past week. She is bravely walking around the house, following me everywhere, chewing on bones whenever she gets a chance...she actually seems to be having a good time!  Yesterday, she even got a little frisky for a while, pouncing around like she wanted to play "chase".  It is so fun to see her becoming a happy golden!

Last weekend, Hanna was VERY lucky to stay overnight at "auntie Dayle's" house, along with a bunch of other big golden darlings. Foster mom and dad had business in the city for the weekend, so Dayle was nice enough to take her in and show her a fun time. Hanna got to go to a bonfire, ate lots of treats, hung out with the big dogs, slept in the bed with the whole crew, played in the yard and in the little pool, and even joined in on a RAGOM meeting! She had just a wonderful time, and came home even more happy and confident than ever.

Hanna is recovering just fine from her spay - we did have to bring her by the vet the other day after she pulled out a couple staples. No big deal.  Her big neck owie is healing beautifully - the top has hair growing in over it and almost looks normal. Still some scabbing and bare spots on the underside of her neck, but it is finally looking like skin and not icky sores.  Also, she had a tooth extracted during her spay (it had an exposed root), and I think it made her mouth feel so much better. She will eat some crunchy things now, along with softened dog food, and anything smelly (hotdogs, chicken, eggs, banana....).  We have to convince her to eat right now - maybe the antibiotics are giving her a light appetite.  She will eat, just takes some patience.

Right now, Hanna is cuddled up with me on the couch, saying, I love you, and I will love anyone who will love me and keep me safe.  She will be such an awesome girl to have in someone's home.  Great with kids, no sign of any aggressions, no guarding, no barking. SO, so sweet.  She just really needs a fenced yard, and to be in a semi-relaxed and calmer environment, with people who will make sure she doesn't slip out the door when she gets the urge to run.  Hanna loves to be pet, loves to snuggle in bed or on the couch, and is really great on walks. Oh, she loves the water, too.Hanna is ready and anxious to find her forever home! Please contact Ragom if you would like to meet this lovely little sweetheart, Hanna.

09/20/2009:

Hi there, Hanna here! I have had such a busy week, I told my foster mom it was my turn to talk! Things have been goin' pretty great at my foster home.My foster bro' Hughie lets me follow him everywhere, and I'm having the best time trying to figure out why he does what he does every minute of the day. :) I didn't do too much before when I was a full-time "mama-dog," so everything is so interesting and curious to me now, and I just love learning new stuff each day!

Oh, did I tell you how much I LOVE toys? Some might call me a "collector" and some might say I'm a "hoarder" but I just say that I love my new toys, and I want them all to be in one place all the time.  Easier to keep track of em' that way, ya know?  Don't worry, I don't mind if other dogs try to steal my toys, or my bones...I just sit quietly and wait for the right moment to get 'em back!! Heh, they never see me comin'! Yes, I'm a little spoiled right now - you should see my stock pile of bone knobs, frisbees, stuffed things, ropes...I love them all.  AND, I don't know how I learned this, but I am really, really good at catching them in my mouth.  I love when foster mom throws a toy for me to catch, over and over and over...my little tail just wags and wags.  What a life.

Last week, I was dropped off with some new people while my foster family went "up north" for the week.  The little 10 year old girl that took care of me was just the best - she played with me and even let me sleep in her bed with my head on her pillow!! I loved it - she was so nice and gave me lots of attention.  The only thing that made me a little nervous was that the new people didn't have any other dogs there, so I made sure to tell my foster mom that where ever I go to live forever, she better make sure I get another doggie brother or sister to keep me company.  I grew up with dogs all around me, and I want to keep it that way! I did get to play a little with the neighbor dogs and that made me happy.

THEN, when foster mom and dad picked me up, we went to stay at aunties house with her two little Beagles, which I was just fine with.  Yeah, they're little, but I guess I didn't care.  When the older grumpier one barked at me a lot, I just turned around and left him alone to his grumpy self.  The next day, we went to this big party at the lake, the RAGOM picnic! It was crazy! Dogs and goldens everywhere.  I was totally in my element.  Shy but excited to see everyone. I even hung out a bit with Mya, who came with me from South Dakota. I was very polite and let everyone sniff me, and I sniffed back.  There was a really big lab there that barked at other dogs, but I stood next to him in line and didn't worry a bit - as long as he had fur and four legs, I was a.o.k.! So then, they called my name and I got to strut my stuff on the, er, "dog-walk" (we won't call it cat-walk because that would be just silly).  Everyone ooh'ed and awed at me, all remarking how little and pretty I was.  I guess you could say that I really liked that part - people fawning over my cuteness, doesn't get any better.  The last thing we did at the picnic was to go down to the beach and pounce around in the water. I had to keep my leash on, which was not my idea but foster mom said "no fence, yes leash".  I still chased the ball into the lake, and just pulled foster mom right in with me. She must really like me to let me get her all wet and dirty like that! After all of that, I slept like a rock the whole way home to Willmar.  It was an excellent day.

I'm ready when you are - I just need a fence (so they tell me), another dog in the house, I love kids but they have to be 10 and up, cats are fine, and hopefully people that will let me cuddle and snuggle with them whenever I want. Hey, I'm easy, just give me a chance and you'll see how sweet I am and how much I will love you!

Wet kisses and furry hugs,
Hanna

09/28/2009:

It's Monday, and cutie-pie Hanna is loungin' on the couch after a big day of napping, walking, and chewing on bones. (It's a dog's life!)She is such an adorable girl, who most people think is just a puppy when they meet her. When we tell them she is FIVE years old, they just gasp because of her tiny size and innocent face!
Hanna acts like a puppy in the good ways, and a mature adult dog in the other good ways.  She is playful and loves to pounce on her toys like a pup, but also is well-behaved, potty trained, mild-mannered, and snuggly like an adult dog should be.  The best of both worlds with this sweet girl.

Hanna does not bark and does not jump on you or others.  She is submissive to all dogs she meets, but will gladly do her own sniffing and greeting once she's been introduced.  Hanna has met kids of different ages, and done well with all of them.  She's a little more timid around men, but it doesn't take much for her to warm up to any guy that will be nice to her!

Hanna loves treats, especially turkey hot dogs! We're trying to fatten her up a bit - she's going in to the vet tomorrow to check her weight.  We're feeding her lots and she eats every bit, but she is still so small.  Maybe she is just a petite girl and will stay that way, but we will have the Doc check her out just to make sure. The great thing about Ragom is that they will do anything and everything to take care of these golden babies.  Hanna is very grateful for everything Ragom has done to give her a happy, healthy, golden life.

Hanna is ready to be adopted - she would love a forever home with:
*fenced yard
*kids if they are 10 and up
*another dog or 2!

Hanna is easy and so loveable you won't be able to let her go if you just get the chance to meet her! We love her and you will to, so let RAGOM know right away if you are interested - Hanna's waiting, and she's sure to be snatched up soon!

PS- Hanna would like to send out some virtual puppy kisses to Dayle and the resident doggies that took care of her overnight again! She had the best time, and really loves to have a sitter that she knows and loves, who is so willing to take care of her when foster family is busy! Thank you!!!

10/13/2009:

Things at Hanna's foster-home have been quite hectic lately, hence the delay in her updates. Sorry, Hanna-fans! She is doing just super.  Hanna continues to grow into a true Golden, becoming more affectionate, braver, and more beautiful every day. She has her routine down now, and you can tell she just loves every minute of the day. She is happy from the moment she wakes to the moment we curl up to go to sleep again.  Hanna loves to jump up in the bed each morning and wake me up with a tiny little kiss on the nose.  She loves to eat her breakfast all up - she's even put on a little more weight finally! Hanna loves to play with her toys in the morning, and is such a good girl when we leave her to go to work.  She's out of her crate in our "dog-room" with the TV on, a cozy futon, rugs...the good life...all day until we get home around 6pm, and is SO good all of the time.  No accidents, no chewing on anything inappropriate, just nice nappin' time until we get home.  Hanna really needs to find a great home soon - someone who can love her, snuggle with her, play games with her, teach her new things, and just keep her safe, healthy, and happy! Are you that person? Hanna wants to meet you! Contact RAGOM if you're interested in this little angel.  She will bless any home with loyalty, trust, love and affection.  Plus she's just so darned cute! Let's find this sweetie a forever home, ok? Hanna says "thanks!" - new photos coming soon.

11/02/2009:

Hanna wants me to tell everyone that we waited way too long to write! She has been a very busy girl, and has lots to tell about her new happy life.  Hanna is as sweet as ever, just a darling little peanut. Still a little shy with strangers, but she warms up after a short while getting to know anyone that looks like they could give her some good pettin' time.  Her tiny little body is the perfect size for jumping on the bed in the middle of the night without ever being noticed -she's light as a feather! We are trying to get her to put on more weight, but she is slow to gain so we just keep feeding her.  And boy does she love to eat! There is no lack of appetite for this one - she loves her fish and sweet potato dog food, and treats, bones, bananas, ....and pretty much anything that smells good!

Hanna LOVES to go outside for walks. Yesterday we took the dogs to the state park for a nice long hike, and she had a blast running through the tall grass, sniffing the deer trails, and blazing the trail the whole way. The best part is that Hanna now walks on a retractable leash with gentle leader, instead of a short slip collar, and she is totally great on the leader. From the first day we put it on her, she never was bothered a bit.  When we get the leashes out now, she starts dancing around and wiggling her little butt with excitement.  It's oh-so cute.

Hanna stayed at auntie D's house again over the weekend, with her buddies Sky and Scout, who are so nice to share the bed with her while she's the house guest.  Hanna seems to get along with every single dog she meets.  Even the noisy, more aggressive dogs in our neighborhood that charge across to street to see her, barking and growling, do not phase her a bit.  She just wants to meet any furry friend she sees.  Hanna also is very interested in chasing rabbits, and tracking other wildlife smells.  She has great instincts and is very smart.

We do know that Hanna does not love riding in the car in stop and go type traffic.  City driving makes her nervous, and she did lose her lunch twice on the way home from Minneapolis.  But it seems like once we are on the highway and moving steady, she is really fine and will lay down and go to sleep.  She is also fine on short trips into town, so I think it must just be the more jerky rides that she doesn't appreciate much.  Right now, Hanna has a little tummy trouble - we have not seen anything solid coming from her for 5 days now (ewww, I know).  We'll get her in to the vet tomorrow to check her out. Hopefully it's just a little stomach bug and will go away soon! Poor girl - she doesn't act sick though, she's such a trooper.

Hanna's favorite game is throwing stuff.  Yep, she likes to pick up toys, bones, and socks and just toss them up, way up, in the air and then pounce on them and do it again.  It is SO funny to watch her, because she just totally entertains herself with her little game.  She has got such a playful, gentle, loving personality.  Anyone would be lucky to have this beautiful girl.

Hanna needs a forever home with...
-fenced in yard
-another dog, or two
-kids if over 10
-long walks or runs
-lots of snuggle time
-play time, bones, treats, pets, kisses, hugs.

11/19/2009:

Hanna continues to be the perfect little princess. She is putting up with our busy schedules with no problems, no complaints.  Hanna hangs out with Hughie our resident golden during the day in our "doggy room," watching TV and snugglin' on the futon.  As a breeder dog, she was used to hanging out with furry companions more than people, so she still is most comfortable when around other pups. She gets along with all dogs.  Tonight one of our neighbor dogs lunged at us while we were out walking the dogs, because she couldn't see us coming and was on her own leash. Hanna just stood behind my legs and peeked out like a little child, more curious than scared.  Hughie defended Hanna's honor by growling back, but when they all realized they knew each other, things were dandy and tails wagged happily.  Last night, I took Hanna and Hugh to the state park and we walked through a herd of 15 deer! Hanna was nervous at first, then excited and she wanted to chase them, but I had to tell her that those big creatures were not exactally in her league.  :)  But she loved to watch them, anyways.  Hanna is a wonderful sniffer - she loves to sniff out the deer and other wildlife when we're walking.

Hanna is putting on a little more weight I think - finally looking like a healthy dog, and not a scrawny, frail one. She is eating great, and her stomach seems to be handling things now. Tonight, she is very very full because her foster mama and foster dad did not communicate to each other that they BOTH decided it was their night to feed the dogs! OOPS!

So doggies had super-sized suppers tonight. Funny how they act just as hungry the second time they eat - you'd never know they already had their fill when they stand their with those "hungry eyes!" Silly us.  At least they are not starving at our house!  Oh, and her fur has become SOO soft and thick now! She came in with icky, sticky, straw like fur, and now it is just beautiful.

We love Hanna-bell, but she is ready to move on to her furever home now.  We want her to find a great home with a fenced yard so she can pounce around, run, and play like she wants to so badly. She loves her toys, loves to chase the ballor anything else you'll throw for her, and loves to run.  Hanna also gets so excited to go on her walks, and sits nicely for her gentle leader.  You will just fall in love with this pretty little baby - 5 years old but really, I think she has the spirit of a 2-3 year old, with the wisdom of a 10 year old.  All the best parts. Fast asleep right now laying butt to butt with Hughie on the couch. It's a dog's life.

11/30/2009:

Hiya, this is Hanna! I am having the best time at my foster home. Hughie (the big dog with the cone on his head), is such a good foster brother, even though that cone really gets in the way when we're trying to play.  My foster mom says that I am the easiest foster dog she's ever had - yay me!! She has been SO busy with "work"...I don't know what that means,  but I know it keeps her away from me too long some days, which makes me sad but I just wait patiently with Hughie for her to come home with foster dad.  I make sure to never have an accident, and I am always ready to wag my tail and go crazy when they get home, which always makes them laugh and that makes me happy.  I want to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there in RAGOM world! I am so very thankful for everyone at RAGOM that worked to bring me and my puppy friends to all of these great families that are caring for us now.  AND, I am also greatful for all of you adoptive people who are making the best decision ever to bring one of us loveable four-legged friends home to be your companion.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

Now, although I love my foster family (even cone-headed-Hughie), my biggest wish is for someone out there to want to take me home and make me a part of their family forever! I wish I could stay here, but they tell me I need a fenced yard to run and play, and gosh, that would be really really nice! I only get to plan on a leash right now, because my family has a really big yard with no fence, and they want to keep me safe which I understand.  So pretty please, if you think you might be able to love and care for a girl as cute as me, let RAGOM know so we can meet! I can't wait to see you!! :)
Peace and Blessings and of course, puppy kisses!
Love Hanna

Hanna-belle here! Man-o-man, I am POOPED! Today was a very big day for me.I had some very nice visitors come to meet me today - a pretty golden girl and her people came all the way to Willmar just to play with me, pet me, and take me for a walk.  It was even very cold outside, but the nice people still walked me down the country road, and we even flushed a pheasant from the ditch! Then when they went back to the cities, me and my foster fam went for another walk!! I had to dictate this note to my foster mom so I could lay down in my comfy bed and crash.

It was a great day, even though I kept waking up to hear my foster fam groan about those purple guys on the tv that throw the ball around.  I don't get it; they don't even throw the ball to any dogs...what's the point?!? No wonder everyone was so disappointed. I tell ya, put me out there coach! I wouldn't fumble, and I'd run that ball in for a TD every time, trust me.  I'll be dreaming about the next draft party, when they announce "Hanna Banana" as the hot top pick of the season! Yeah, it'll be great...can't wait...to...play...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

G'night, luv Hanna Banana.

01/03/2010:

Happy Happy New Year from Hanna-belle! First off, Hanna would like to send some serious kisses and hugs to her loving sponsor, Beryl Board! What an amazing person it takes to reach out and take care of those that need it the most...those four legged companions that cannot help themselves.  Many of our most beautiful creatures rely on the goodness of strangers, like that of Beryl Board, to help give them the assistance they need to fulfill their best "doggy destinies"! Thank you so much to Hanna's sponsors for helping to provide for her care.

Now that we are into the new year, and foster mom and dad are past their hyper-busy season (both of us have our own businesses which are heavily reliant on holiday business), we are all ready to et back to looking for Hanna's forever home.  We must apologize for neglecting our updating duties over the past few weeks.  Hopefully you have not forgotten about this sweet little beauty! She is only becoming more and more beautiful every day. Other than a little chronic ear infection problem, Hanna is in excellent health and a very happy girl!

Hanna had a wonderful holiday season, with company coming over and weird schedules, it was enough to make any pup a little frazzled. But Hanna handled it all like a champion. She is still a bit nervous with strangers in the house, but only to the extent that she must tiptoe around and wait until they aren't looking so she can inspect each new person on her own time.  If people try to approach her, she might let them, or she might "flit" away and come back later when she is ready.  The best news is that she loves everyone, really.  I would not be nervous with her around anyone, no matter gender, age, shape, or size. We love little Hanna, our tiny little angel dog.  She is still around 45 pounds, so the perfect size for her to be able to sneak up into the bed with us at night and not have me notice that she has been sleeping ON TOP of me until I wake in the morning! It's so cute how she likes to sneak her snuggles...makes your heart melt every time.
Hanna is looking for a reasonably calm home with at least one companion dog, kids if they're 10 or greater, and a fenced yard.  She needs a safe place to run and play.  We would keep her in a heartbeat if we had that darned fence...she's been with us since July now, so please, will somebody welcome this little beauty into their home for good, soon, so she can really start her new life with her forever family? We will be sad to see her go, but so incredibly happy that she will get the chance to run and play the way she deserves.  Anyone would be lucky to have this sweet girl. Contact your advisor today if you are interested in Hanna!!

01/04/2010:

Just a quick note to say that we brought Hanna to the vet today to check out her ears that kept us ALL awake last night. We were sent home with some anti-inflammatory drops to try for a couple of weeks. She has some "pollups" in her ears that seem to really make it impossible to keep those ears clean and infection free.  So we'll try that and see if it helps. What I really wanted to report is that Hanna is now almost 52 pounds!!! That means she's gained like 8 pounds since she came to us, and we can no longer count her ribs just by looking at her! Just wanted to share the news! Good night!

01/15/2010:

Hi there, Hanna-belle comin' at ya live! Well, actually, I am fast-asleep in my doggy bed right now. So I am sending this message to you from my dream land.  I am so relaxed these days, I tell ya, it's so much easier now that I'm not such a scaredy-dog.  Ok, yes, I'm still a little shy, but I'm not givin' that up because that's part of what makes me so darn irresistable! Oh, and I am pretty brave now, too, if I do say so myself. Sometimes I even jog downstairs all by myself, just so I can have some "me time" in the quiet hallway down there.  I don't even need foster brother Hughie to come with me anymore. That's pretty big.

And yes, I am the prettiest golden girl in the land.  Very soft, strawberry blond fur...ooh la la, am I cute or what?! You should see me sit like a showgirl when I get my gentle leader on, and I don't even mind one bit those funny boots they put on my feet! Those little booties keep my toes warm and my pretty nails clean, AND, I love to steal them when they come off my paws cuz they're so fuzzy and just like little toys! My foster mom thinks it's pretty silly how I like to steal my own booties, so I really do it just to humor her, I think.

Guess what? My ears are getting better every day.  Foster dad puts icky drops in my ears every night that are making them hurt less, so now I don't itch all of the time. But I am not fond of the cleaning my ears thing - I let them do it because they say I have to, and I don't complain, but get me outta there as soon as they are done!! Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone out there in Ragom world.  I love you all! And especially my sponsors - you guys are the best.

Sleep tight! Hanna

01/21/2010:

Great news, everyone! Hanna will be heading to Bloomington on Friday to finally go to her new forever home! A very nice man and lady, and their big black dog Paws came to see Hanna last weekend, and everyone got along perfectly.  She impressed the nice people by uncharacteristically pouncing around and being a playful little flirt! It was so cute.  Hanna will soon have her own back yard which is totally fenced in, so she can play and run safely and freely.  She'll have a new furry sibling to hang with, and two cats to keep her, um, entertained.

Hanna wants to thank everyone for following her adventures in the world of Ragom, where she was able to learn how to become a truly happy golden girl.  Thank you to her sponsors, and her holiday gift givers, for helping her to be cared for in every way.  And thank you to everyone at Ragom and to the Humane Society for helping to rescue her and bring her to a place that could love and care for her after her breeding days were over.  She is a totally new dog - happy, healthy, relaxed...life is good for our little Hanna-belle.  We'll miss her big time, but are so happy she has found her forever home!

Notes from Hannah's new forever family...

Hannah is going to love the backyard.  She's out there checking out all the corners and running around with her tail up not tucked between her legs.

She did start something this morning that we'll have to figure out.  I get up to feed the cats about 5:30-6.  Usuallly go back to bed till about 7:00 when we're up for the day.  This morning I come back and who's all stretched out on my pillow.  You guessed it.  Somewhere she's learned the Golden Retriever trick of closing her eyes and pretending she's asleep so no one bugs her.  I laid down below her and watched her as she turned her head to see how I was going to handle things and then she went back to sleep.

Doing well and getting more comfortable every day, Joe

........................

Hi Hannah fans, she's doing great - loves the back yard and doesn't want to come in.  Has rediscovered how to bark and has met the two goldens next door.  Just went downstairs the other day with us-found another bedroom with a down comforter and liked that.  Loves treats, naps and playing.  Still timid but getting a lot better.

She's a sweetie, have a great day!  joe

.........................

Hi, I'm doing well here in my forever home. I sttill get a bit nervous at times but its getting better.  We play fetch everyday and I love my backyard.  I have my spot on the couch, the bed and my own blue food bowl that get filled twice a day with good food.  Paws is a lot of fun and doesn't mind that I follow him around and I think Max the cat has a crush on me because he sleeps right next to me.  The last few days I've felt ok going out by myself, I can see Joe or nancy watching me from the porch so that's good.

Anyway, all is good with me and I hope you're doing well.

Happy Valentines Day!  Hannah
