Golden Links

There are many wonderful Golden sites out there and here are a few of our favorites.

DISCLAIMER: While we feel these links have a great deal of good information, please be aware that these are private sites and we at RAGOM can not control what is said on them and if we get feed back repeatedly about concerns we will remove if so approved by the BOARD.

Educational Sites:

The Dog Owners Guide, an on-line magazine that discusses  behavior and training issues.  It also explains how to choose a breed that is right for you, caring for a puppy and a ton of other articles.

Great Goldens. This site compares a number of dog food brands, and lists their ingredients.  It is a handy site if you are trying to find the best food for you dog.  It also has links to the Memphis Golden Retrieve Rescue- a really fun site in itself!

Helping Paws of Minnesota.  This wonderful group trains dogs to act as working animals for people with various physical disabilities other than visual/aural.  They also donate the use of their facility to RAGOM on a regular basis.  Check this site out- it is fascinating.

How To Love Your Dog - teaches kids about compassion, commitment, and responsibility. Topics include basic care and training, pet loss, pet overpopulation, laws of the community, safety around animals, and compassion toward old dogs

Minnesota Purebred Dog Breeders Association - another great source of information.  No golden hunt would be complete without a stop here.

MN Dogs.com This site has lots of helpful information (and some blatant advertisements) for Minnesota Pet owners.  There are some really nice pet training tips on this site, and fun stores in which to find dog stuff.

Pet Loss Support.  This wonderful site provides assistance for grieving pet owners.

Golden Fun

K9 Clowns -  a fantastic site full of information, entertainment and creativity.

The Golden Brick Road - is full of wonderful graphics, golden postcards, games, stories about therapy dogs, and much, much more. This site is a must see.

Absolutely Golden - is a small business whose proceeds help the Golden Retriever Rescue Club of Charlotte.

Other Great Golden Retriever Sites

Ripley's World - focuses on responsible dog ownership, therapy dogs, getting a puppy, dog books, whether to breed your dog, the occasional dog trivia contest and more. While visiting Ripley's page you can get on the Golden Retriever web ring and cruise dozens of other golden related sites. Look for the banner at the bottom of the main page.

Greater Twin Cities Golden Retriever Club - is a great source of information on golden retrievers in the twin city area and additional contacts for goldens and golden activities.  Although we aren't affiliated with them in any way other than geography and through shared membership, stop by and check out their web site.

Golden Retriever Club of America - a wonderful source of information on Golden Retrievers in general, puppy referrals, additional rescue information and much more.

*Some confusion has arisen over the nature of municipal animal shelters.  It is important that we all understand that public shelters, privately funded shelters, and breed rescue all have the welfare of animals as their primary goal.  Each serves animals in their own way with their own resources.  We all need to understand that breed rescues and so-called "no kill" shelters operate primarily on volunteer efforts and private donations and deal with relatively small numbers of animals, whereas public facilities rely primarily on public money and city employees and deal with huge numbers of animals.   We in breed rescue must be careful not to pass judgment too quickly when public shelters have to have time limits on how long animals can stay.  They do not have the human resources that we have and are more open to litigation dealing with animal bites and animal health than private groups.  It is important that we all work together and keep in mind what is best for the animals.  We cannot save them all, but together we can save as many as we can.
