The Gentle Leader

Just what is that puppy wearing?  Is it a muzzle?

No, it's not a muzzle.  It's called a Gentle Leader and it is a training aid for dogs of all kinds.

The Gentle Leader is based on the same principles used in horse training.  You can't get a horse to do much with a rope tied around its neck!  But tie one around its snout and you can lead it anywhere.  Unlike a conventional collar, the Gentle Leader does not place force on the dog's throat which can cause serious damage in a dog that pulls and pulls on a leash.  Our foster families use Gentle Leaders to prevent pulling during walks and to help introduce a dog to his new home.

Most dogs adjust quickly to a Gentle Leader, though they may try to remove it.  Our foster families have had many positive experiences using Gentle Leaders with their foster dogs.
